Start-Up Offer Language

For a number of years, the Provost's Office has used variations of the following language in start-up offer letters in regard to shared computational resources:

• NJIT will provide access to high performance computational resources, storage, and specialized software that are part of the centrally supported cyberinfrastructure for research. Current information on these IT services is available at NJIT cyberinfrastructure
• NJIT will provide prioritized access to ...
• NJIT will provide funding to increase the centrally supported cyberinfrastructure for research for <insert technical capacity to be procured> for approximately <insert anticipated costs>. Your research group will have priority on usage of these resources.

Supplemental Language

• Alternatively, an equivalent computational capacity might be provided on a subscription basis with a Tier-One cloud computing provider. Such subscription services would be sized to match your planned usage patterns.

Existing Infrastructure

A summary of the current on-campus cyberinfrastructure to support research is available at HPC and BD Resources.

The shared portion of this infrastructure is estimated to be at 80% capacity on average. There is not significant capacity available to dedicate to new researchers. (Academic and Research Computing Systems is working on new tools to get better capacity metrics).

Discussion with ARCS

It is strongly recommended that there be discussions between the candidate and Academic and Research Computing Systems (ARCS) on the techinical aspects of the computational, storage, and software needs of the researcher. ARCS can be reached at: arcs#njit.edu
