CERN is moving off of OpenAFS to cloud-based storage using OwnCloud, in which it is an investor, and which is backed by the European Open File System, which is fork of the Lustre file system. See : [1]
A very substantial effort is being put into this custom in-house project. It is not clear if any of the technologies being developed in this project are applicable to storage requirements outside of CERN's.
